This post is for those of you who dont see me in my every day life and may not know the latest happenings in the Greutman house. We have waited to ‘go public’ with this because it has been a long, hard road. Grab a seat, get some popcorn. This is gonna be a long one.
One year and some change ago, we were confronted with the reality that our son, Rowan, is quite different than other boys his age. I am not going to drag out how we finally came to grips with this, but the fact is, a few months ago we realized our first born baby boy is on the autism spectrum. We don’t know quite where yet, as he hasn’t been officially diagnosed. Now friends, please don’t start crying for us, unless it is in intercession for his healing! We fully believe that God is going to bring about a miracle in Ro’s life, mind, body and spirit.
3 months ago, mid-february, we began biomedically treating him for autism. Again, it’s a long story of how God confirmed that this was the way to go for us, but I promise you, God led us down this road and we are going all the way, baby! Rowan started with the gluten-free, casein-free diet, then went to the Specific Carbohydrate diet, and finally, we have settled on doing the Healing Diet, which is basically just eating all organic meat, veggies, fruit, nuts and seeds. (The way we used to eat before all the processed food came along). Many autistic children have issues with their guts and how their bodies process foods, toxins, etc, so we are addressing this first. If you are wondering at all about what these diets actually do and how it helps, you can go to www.generationrescue.org or www.talkaboutcuringautism.org and read all about biomedical treatments. We are absolutely pursuing therapies also, but as you can imagine, getting all of these ducks in a row takes time. And by the way, we’ve already seen some great changes since we started!
We do believe that, to some degree, Rowan’s vaccinations triggered his autism (not CAUSED, mind you, so dont go crazy on me here!). So at some point we will probably also detox him of all the heavy metals he incurred while having his vaccinations. I understand that many of you might not agree with this stance, and that’s fine. I am asking that you not write to me and tell me you think I’m wrong
I am not taking this lightly, of course, and have done many many hours, weeks and months of research to make these conclusions and take these steps that we are taking.
Most importantly, we are praying for Rowan non-stop, for a miraculous healing and restoring of what has been damaged. I firmly believe that when the writers of the Bible called the Lord “Jehovah Rapha” ( i think thats how it is spelled), which means God Heals, they were telling the truth. In the book of Matthew, Jesus healed ALL of the sick who came to Him. And He never changes. He is always Jehovah Rapha.
So I write this blog entry in hopes that you’ll join us in prayer for our little boy. He can wake from this slumber and come out of this fog of autism, in Jesus’ name and for His glory only! Amen?
And lastly, there is another change, a big change, but not quite as dramatic as the first half of my blog. Today was Joel’s last day on staff at ZHOP. We’re still here in Fort Mill being a part of the House of Prayer, but due to many factors, one being all of this stuff with Ro, we can no longer be dedicated to the hours at ZHOP. Side note- if we haven’t already contacted you and if you’ve been funding us, I am very sorry and I tried to get in touch with all of you to let you know this ahead of time. Ok, continuing- Joel is going to be working full-time as a self-employed web programmer in the area. He has a few jobs lined up and will be staying with his current part-time employer who he has been doing work for already. (go check out www.worshipplanning.com Some of that is Joel’s handy-work!)
Deep breath! That is our life right now. Thank you all for loving us and taking time to read this story. From now on, I’ll be posting updates on how things are going with Rowan, and of course my other 2 beautiful children.
By the way, Asher is doing great! He is talking up a storm with several new words every day (it seems!). He is defintely the ham in the family and loves putting on comedy shows for people, and he’s only 2! Bella Rose is almost crawling, and we often get told that they’ve never seen a baby who smiles so much and so easily. She just loves people, and is clearly already an extrovert. I am doing well, although a bit overwhelmed at times with all of the research i’ve been doing in regards to the biomedical stuff. I am so appreciative of my close friends and family who take the time to learn about this too. Lauren, Liz, Laurel, Sooz and Ry, you have no idea how you’ve touched my heart by researching, listening to my rants, and bearing me and Joel up in love.
Love you all! Keep us in your prayers and I look forward to updating you on his progress. Blessings!
-Jenn
PS If you plan on commenting, which i always love and encourage, please make sure you only say positive things! If you write something negative or discouraging, understand that it will be promptly deleted, and you will get a response from me asking you to please not do that again.
Thanks.
Aw, sister! I love you and your family, and since I can’t see them very often (or…like… EVER..) I am happy to do whatever I can to help:) I will keep praying and digging up whatever I can.
Hey Jenn, I’m sure you’ve already researched it
but check out sensory integration therapy and autism. i thought of it for Rowan when u posted something about how much he loved the sand when u guys went to the beach. Love u guys! praying!
Jenn,
I know the decisions you’ve made are on the controversial side, but I wanted to let you know that your strength amazes me. Many parents do not have the courage to venture out of the mainstream and go with they feel is truly right for their children. You are being led down this path for a reason. I could go on and on about how amazing you and your beautiful family are, and how much I support you. However, I am really commenting to offer my services if you ever need them. The autism specialists in my county are really wonderful, and as a special education teacher I might be able to answer questions or take some research of your hands. Please let me know if you need anything. Rowan is lucky to have you and Joel as parents. Your faith is some of the strongest I’ve ever witnessed. And I truly believe that God will use your and your experiences to help others in similar situations.
Blessings,
Bri
So proud of you for blogging about this with such strength. Mark and I are alongside of you every step of the way, constantly interceeding for our nephew who we love so much! Your strength and determination amaze me daily and I have seen such growth in you the past year through dealing with his autism. The Lord definetely gave you the name for your first born Rowan, meaning Red Warrior (i think??). He will fight alongside with you as a warrior, even though he might not be able to verbalize it now, he will someday tell you everything that you are doing means so much to him! Love you sis!
praying for you
..i miss you and joel
Jenn,
I love you so much. Rowan is blessed to have you and I know what you are doing will work. Keep the faith and we will pray too. I have a book for you.
<3
Jenn – I am really glad you posted this! I am totally standing with you guys for Ro’s complete healing, nothing is too big for our God! I will also pray for strength and wisdom for you and Joel… you 2 are amazing parents and have 3 amazing (and amazingly cute!) children! Love you all!
Hey Jenn –
I’ll certainly be praying for you and the Groovetrain and Ro as well.
While I’m certainly neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet, I’d offer this to you – while I’ll be praying that God would heal Ro, I would beg you and Joel to consider the impact God may intend for this autism to have for His glory and greater purpose. This most intensely God-honoring, Christ-exalting, glory-saturated preaching I’ve ever heard came from a pastor with high-functioning autism. Perhaps, just maybe, there is a greater intention in this.
Nonetheless, I’ll be petitioning the throne on Ro’s behalf, and on yours.
For God’s glory alone!!
Hutch
Jenn,
We have been praying for you guys for months now ourselves, and we will certainly continue to do so. Our Father is loving and good and He is working all things together for the good of those who love Him, those who are called according to His purpose.
Which certainly includes each member of your precious family. =)
Anything I can do for you, just ask.
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning….
Thank you all so much! Very encouraging messeges, keep em coming
We love you all, I hope you know that!
Shadowspring: who are you?
Tori: email or facebook me what that book is! or bring it to church.
I have both of Jenny McCarthey’s books and a book called “Autism’s Hidden Blessings”, all are really good and have helped tremendously. That last one was written by a Christian lady here in Charlotte who recovered her son. It ministered to me so much!
Wait – Jenny McCarthey, like the trashy actress on TV?
I will join the many who are praying for you guys. My sister-in-law teaches at a school for autistic kids and loves them dearly. I remember catching something on the news recently about diet and autism. Thanks for pouring into my sons lives.
Blessings, Karen
Laurel: yes thats the one. she’s not as trashy anymore, she’s really kind of a hero! she is the one who basically got the word out that autism is recoverable. She recovered her own son! You should watch some of her clips on youtube from larry king live or from the View. she’s awesome, except for the whole trashy part. haha
Hey Jen,
i always surf over to your site from Ry’s to get a update on your fam..and wow!!! i’m so praying for you guys. This topic has been a subject of many conversations in our office over the past couple months…and I just wanted the Larry King Interview ith Jenny McCarthy and her story of her sons autism it is very good and you guys seem to be tracking the same way. But love you guys a ton and our prayers and support are with you in whatever you do!!
Joanna
I think you’re one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. I just wanted you to know that none of this is a surprise to God. I haven’t the faintest idea how He’s going to make it well (be it healing Rowan or working through it) but the God that I know will most definately use it to make all of you grow for the better and to glorify Himself (because he can!).
If she hasn’t messaged you yet, talk to my sister-in-law Jessie, she’s a veritable treasure-chest of information about autism and treatments (she works with autistic kids that are all up and down the scale). She was really helpful to me while I was pregnant in giving me info about the DAN vaccination schedule, and some of the stuff she was telling me on the phone sounded like stuff you might like to know if you don’t already. Like I said, get in touch with her somehow if she hasn’t come to you yet and if you need any of her info I’d be happy to give it to you.
All 3 of us love all 5 of you. Call me if you need me, I’m here.
love ya jenners! your doin wonderful. we love u and ro!
Hi Jenn! I’m not certain you will get this comment, since you’ve switched to Blogger (good for you – welcome!
)
I just want you to know that Garr and I will be praying along with you. I think it is amazing that you guys are doing this alternative treatment and I think if it were my son, I’d be doing the same thing. Please continue to update on your new blog. Love you guys, Jess
